How would you like to have a whiter, cleaner smile as bright as the spring sun?
Spring season means more time out and about, more BBQs to attend, and more family outings to enjoy the great weather – and you’ll definitely want a smile that shines for all of these occasions.
Right now is the perfect time to get some cosmetic dentistry work done. One of the best options is veneers. A quick and painless cosmetic treatment, veneers can help to hide those dental imperfections that you may be worried or insecure about. And there’s no better dental office in McAllen that can serve you than WhiteWing Dental.
What are veneers?
Veneers are little porcelain coverings that are placed on top of your natural teeth. These wafer-thin pieces of porcelain are tooth-colored to match your natural teeth while providing you a bright new smile. Veneers are mainly used to hide dental imperfections like:
- Tooth discoloration
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Worn down teeth
- Gapped teeth
- Misaligned or uneven teeth
- Irregularly-shaped teeth
While some limitations may exist depending on the structure of your teeth, veneers are a great cosmetic solution to correct minor imperfections.
How many do I need?
Generally speaking, when considering veneers, you must ask yourself three questions:
- When you make your biggest smile into the mirror, how many teeth do you see?
- How much more white do you want your teeth to be?
- Are you satisfied with the shape, length, width, and overall size of your teeth?
These three questions are crucial when selecting just how many teeth you wish to treat. In short, the bigger the smile, the more changes you’ll want, the more veneers you will need.
Sometimes just the front row of teeth won’t be enough. If you only have the first six teeth that show in your smile covered with veneers, it may look good when face to face, but if you have a big grin or if someone steals a look from the sides of your face, they may see a difference between your molars and the teeth that have veneers on them. In those cases, maybe installing 10 would be more of a benefit for you.
Other times, maybe you only have one or two teeth that you want to cover up, and you’ll only need one or two veneers installed. It all depends on your particular situation and what the cosmetic dentist recommends.

Getting veneers installed isn’t painful, long, or a painfully long procedure. Even better, they can last between 10 to 15 years if you take care of your teeth properly. You’re really getting your money’s worth!
In order to get the process started, you’ll need to have a plan. Have a discussion with our cosmetic dentists here at WhiteWing Dental about your smile/dental goals and what type of look you’re going for. Your dentist will normally inspect your teeth to see if veneers are appropriate to address your cosmetic dental concerns. Taking x-rays and impressions of your mouth and teeth are pretty common during this part of the process.
Next comes preparation. Your cosmetic dentist will prepare your teeth for the installation by gently removing a thin layer of enamel so that the veneer can fit and look natural. Only enough enamel is removed that is equal to the thickness of the veneer.
Then, an impression of your teeth is taken, and the results are then sent to a dental laboratory so that the porcelain veneers can be crafted to fit your particular needs. In the meantime, you should be given temporary veneers.
Once your newly crafted veneers come, it’s time to install them. Your cosmetic dentist will remove any temporary veneers from your teeth and fit the final products on, making adjustments to the veneer as needed for that natural look. After that, the cosmetic dentist will clean and polish your teeth. Then they will etch the tooth with a strong bond.
At this time, a special cement is applied with a curing light to secure the veneer in place. Finally, the cosmetic dentist will evaluate the work done, check your bite, look for any leftover or excess cement that needs to be removed, or final adjustments that need to be made.
