It is officially December and it is time for family, friends, fun, and celebration. It also means planning ahead for the year to come. While the holiday season can bring plenty of bad dental care habits, the worst habit you can have is not visiting your dentist at all.
While we tend to place a lot of concern on the teeth of our children, adults seem to forget about taking care of their own dental needs. No need to be ashamed, though. With the start of 2018 just a few weeks away, why not make a resolution that is both easy and healthy? Schedule your appointment with us today here at WhiteWing Dental to start the New Year off on the right foot.
Has it been some time since you’ve visited the dentist? It’s perfectly normal that you feel a bit nervous and intimidated by the whole experience. What To Expect At Your First Appointment Back
If this is the first time seeing the dentists in some years (or if you’re new to town and are visiting WhiteWing Dental for the first time) then there are a few details about your appointment that you should expect:
Not the most interesting part of the process, but definitely one of the most important, you’ll have to fill out the necessary forms to provide us with info on your medical and dental history. This paperwork will include health history forms, patient consent forms, and financial policies.
You’ll also need to bring important information with you including insurance information and any list of medications you are taking. Since this initial step can take some completing, you should plan for this first visit back to the dentist to run a little longer than usual.Havent seen our #McAllen #dentists in a long time? 2. Examination time.
This first exam usually consists of multiple steps including dental X-rays, physical examination of your teeth, gums, mouth, and throat, and discussion about any oral issues you are having. This part of your visit to WhiteWing Dental in McAllen or La Feria is essential as it will allow us to evaluate your risk of tooth decay, root decay, and gum or bone disease. A few of the X-rays we use at WhiteWing Dental include bitewing, which works great at letting us see the crowns of the upper and lower teeth, and panoramic X-rays, which provide a broad view of the entire mouth.
If it’s been some time since you’ve been in a dental office (we’re talking decades here), then you’ll probably see some new tech. Don’t be scared! They are all great tools designed to make your experience much more comfortable, efficient, and effective.
3. Cleaning time!
Perhaps the most important part of your visit to our McAllen dentist – the cleaning. Our hygienist will do a thorough cleaning of your teeth to help remove plaque, tartar, and to uncover any cavities. Just keep in mind, if you haven’t had a dental cleaning in some years, and you haven’t been keeping up with flossing as you should have, you are likely to have quite a bit of buildup. This can mean a bit of discomfort and bleeding during the cleaning process – but not need to worry – this is a normal reaction.
If any cavities should be found during the cleaning and evaluation process, then we will provide you with a number of options to help fix the issue.
4. Discussing issues and scheduling your next appointment.
Throughout the entire process, our team of dental specialists will be looking out for any major oral health issues such as periodontitis, cavities, fractured teeth, worn fillings, and the likes. At this point, our dentists will recommend preventative treatments for your dental health such as fluoride treatment, orthodontic care, wisdom tooth extraction, and any other number of solutions.
Our team of caring dental specialists will then help to prioritize needs, discuss your treatment options, create an appointment schedule to meet your needs, and discuss fees with you, as well as provide you support to ensure your dental insurance covers the majority of the oral healthcare.
This is also the perfect time for you to ask questions about your oral health and how it could be affecting your overall health as well. If you’re dealing with other health issues, such as diabetes, make sure to inform your dentist. Dentists can provide you with information about products that can help to alleviate oral health issues associated with your disease.
The final step will be to schedule a follow-up visit to continue treatment and set you up for your bi-annual dental check-up.
And voila…just like that WhiteWing Dental is helping to give you back that you beautiful smile you’ve always dreamed of. But of course, the only way to get the process started is by making sure to schedule an appointment with our dentists in McAllen or La Feria.
