Dr. Gray Completes Dental Implant Continuum at Baylor College of Dentistry

If there is one thing Dr. Gray wholeheartedly believes in, it is lifelong learning. And he proved his love for education once again by recently completing the Dental Implant Continuum at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry.

As one of the most distinguished dental programs in the state, Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry has been providing students incredible learning experiences for more than 100 years.

Dr. Gray devoted himself to the year-long course, which involved a hefty 120 hours of continuing education classes, laboratory hours, and actual hands-on experience with patients. But it was definitely time well spent.

The experience has only added to Dr. Gray’s expertise and will now allow him to use the latest techniques and technologies to provide advanced dental implant replacement services.

The postdoctoral continuing education course included a variety of instructional classes and real-world opportunities to practice imaging, planting, placement, restoration, and maintenance.

Also, because every dentist in the program was mentored by 12 other individuals who had tremendous experience in restorative dentistry and implants, Dr. Gray was able to receive a lot of valuable one-on-one time with his instructors.

Not only was Dr. Gray able to perform numerous implant procedures on actual patients, he was also able to oversee his classmates conduct similar treatments. These opportunities allowed him to get even more exposure to the processes and helped him develop a better understanding of how to identify the perfect candidates for implants.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are generally made from titanium and placed into a patient’s jaw bone to help hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Implants help provide a strong foundation for these replacement teeth that will be made to match the color and size of your natural teeth.

One form of dental implants is placed within the bone, thus it is essential that a potential candidate has adequate bone left in the jaw to support the implant. Patients should also have healthy gums and be free from periodontal disease.

Implants are frequently used as an alternative to dentures and provide patients many benefits including:

  • Improved appearance and enhanced confidence.
  • Easier time eating as dental implants remain securely in place and help patients avoid the pain and movement that occur with dentures.
  • Dental implants, when properly taken care of, are very durable and can, in fact, last a lifetime.
  • Because dental implants remain in place, patients no longer have to deal with the inconveniences associated with removable dentures.

While WhiteWing Dental has always been able to provide dental implants as a service, Dr. Gray’s new training will allow him to meet the needs of more severe cases.
